Format and venue requirements

How to choose a format and what you need to organise a venue

Which formats can I choose for running the challenge?

The Atomic Challenge can be run in person, online or in a mixed format. In person there are three options: a classic dictation, an open lesson with a dictation, and a team quiz (participants discuss the answers to the questions in teams). Presentations and scripts for all three are available in the organiser’s account.

What do I need to run the challenge in person?

You will need a room with seating, a computer or laptop, a screen or projector, sound equipment, printed answer sheets, pens, correct answer sheets and diplomas. The materials are downloaded from the account; the venue provides the equipment and the printing itself.

What do I need to run the challenge online?

You will need computers, laptops or tablets for the participants, a stable internet connection and access to the Atomic Challenge website. Check in advance that participants can sign in and that the devices work.

What do I need for the mixed format?

You need to provide for in-person and online participation at the same time. Work out in advance roughly how many participants there will be in each format, so that you can prepare enough seats and devices.

What does the Atomic Challenge team provide, and what does the venue prepare itself?

The project team provides presentations, scripts, answer sheets, diplomas, instructions, checklists and other materials in electronic form. The venue provides the room, the equipment, the internet connection, the printing, and photo and video coverage (a phone will do).

When is the best time to register a venue, and on which dates can the challenge be run?

We recommend registering as a venue as soon as you have decided to take part: you will need time to prepare and to invite participants in advance. The challenge can be run on any day until the project ends on September 28, 2026. Bear in mind that you will also need time afterwards to prepare and send the final report.

Register a venue

What if the exact date and time are not known yet?

You can give an approximate date. There is no need to specify the time of day. The date can be adjusted later in the organiser’s account.

Do I need to know the exact number of participants in advance?

If you do not know the exact number, give the number you are planning for. On the day, record the actual number and give it in the report.

Can one organisation run the challenge at several branches or addresses?

Yes. We welcome the challenge being run at as many venues as possible. If the branches have different dates and different people in charge, we recommend registering each branch as a separate venue with its own date.
